He drank at least a whole liter today. In one sitting. You work through all kinds of problems on the Camino...Chris will get through this, one step at a time.
I have the best pilgrim brother :)
And the best pilgrim Guide, Comfort, Strength, Comic Relief, and Love. Check out the sunrise He gave us this morning:
In the morning, the sunrise is always at our backs. We always have to turn around to see it. Behind us, it paints a breathtaking picture of beauty, creativity, and awesomeness, unique and incomparable to anything else. When we turn back around and march onward, the same sun illuminates the path before us. It reminds me of something Papa Francesco wrote...
When we see with eyes illumined by the gift of faith, we can look back and see the beautiful picture God has painted throughout all of history, or even just in our own lives. All those "random" events, people, and circumstances look different in the light of faith--less random, more providential, more like little acts of love. Holding this picture in our hearts and minds, we can also look forward with a new, more profound trust. With the light of faith from the past, a picture we can see more completely, new exciting possibilities of the future come into view, possibilities we couldn't see without the light of faith, "opening before us vast horizons which guide us beyond our isolated selves towards the breadth of communion." Why is this important? As Gille (aka French Boss, brave wise man**) would say, "Where is God? He is in our relations. Like the point where the sun meets the earth at Finisterre, God is this point in our relationships." Faith is communal. When you have faith, you have faith in someone or in something. When we have faith in God, we enter into a relationship with Him. As we work on this relationship, we come closer to perfect communion with Him. Moving "beyond our isolated selves towards the breadth of communion" isn't just a nice thing to do or pretty words--a movement towards communion is a movement towards God. The light of faith shows us the way, so let's ask for the gift of faith, and let's move, people! May every sunrise you see give you a little assurance of God's constant faithfulness, and nudge (or a big kick) in the direction of what He has coming for you! (which will be awesome--you should try it.)
Our Lady of Humility, give us your faith!
**pilgrim family tree coming soon :)
